Read Discord for Research

Your AI reads Discord servers and channels for trading, crypto, or market discussions, lists members and channels, and searches messages for tickers or topics. Read-only; no sending or reacting.

Try asking: “Search my trading Discord for mentions of NVDA today”

What is this skill?

Financial and trading communities on Discord are a valuable source of real-time sentiment and market insights, but keeping up with multiple servers and channels can be overwhelming. With this skill, your AI reads Discord servers, channels, and messages, lists members, and searches for specific topics or tickers—all without the risk of sending or reacting to messages. It’s ideal for traders, researchers, and anyone monitoring crypto or stock discussions in Discord communities.

What you can do

  • List your servers and channels: "Show my Discord trading servers and their channels."
  • Read recent messages in a channel: "Read the last 50 messages in the crypto channel."
  • Search for ticker or topic mentions: "Search Discord for GME mentions today."
  • List online members: "Who’s online in my options server?"
  • Monitor sentiment or event-driven chatter: "What are people saying about BTC in Discord right now?"

How it works

When you request Discord research, your AI uses opencli to connect to your running Discord Desktop app via Chrome DevTools Protocol. It lists servers, channels, or members, reads recent messages in the active channel, or searches for keywords. All operations are strictly read-only—no messages are sent, reacted to, or edited.

Good to know

  • Requires Node.js 20+, Discord Desktop running with remote debugging enabled, and the OPENCLI_CDP_ENDPOINT environment variable set.
  • Works only on CLI-based agents (Claude Code, etc.), not on Claude.ai web.
  • No bot account or token extraction required; opencli connects locally.
  • Reference files include command guides and research workflows.
