What is this skill?

Traditional SEO gets you clicks; Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) gets your content cited by AI assistants and search engines powered by language models. With this skill, your AI can audit your content for E-E-A-T signals, rewrite it for citation-friendliness, and track which pages are cited by which LLMs. This is essential for content strategists, publishers, and marketers who want to future-proof their authority as AI-driven search grows.

What you can do

  • Audit any URL or markdown file for AEO, scoring it on Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
  • Get specific, actionable recommendations to improve your content’s citation potential.
  • Rewrite content to boost citation density, add structured data (FAQ, HowTo, Article schema), and optimize headings for LLM parsing.
  • Track citations by LLM (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Mistral), query, and date in a local ledger.
  • Export citation data to CSV for reporting or pipeline integration.

How it works

When you request an AEO audit, your AI checks your robots.txt for AI crawler access, then runs a Python script to score your content across E-E-A-T dimensions. It outputs a markdown report with scores and specific recommendations. For optimization, it rewrites your content (conservative to aggressive modes) to boost citation signals and injects schema.org JSON-LD. Citation tracking lets you log when and where your content is cited, building a ledger for ongoing monitoring and benchmarking.

Good to know

  • You’ll need Python 3 to run the audit and optimizer scripts locally.
  • Citation tracking is local—no external telemetry or cloud sync.
  • For best results, ensure your site allows AI bots in robots.txt.

When to use

  • Planning a new content piece for an AI-first audience
  • Auditing existing content for E-E-A-T gaps before AI Overview rollout
  • Tracking which pages get cited by which LLM (citation ledger)
  • Researching what queries LLMs cite sources for (vs. what they answer from training)
  • Benchmarking against competitors' citation rates
  • Building a long-term AEO strategy aligned with traditional SEO
